Road-Ready Online Driver Education

students-laptops-row23.jpg

While our traditional class may not seem as convenient as an online experience, we do want parents and students to consider the value of peer interaction as well as having a live teacher who provides demonstrations and is available to answer questions.

For students that cannot find a traditional class that works within their schedule, Road-Ready Driver Training has developed high quality online driver education program that meets the standards we hold all our students to. Students can start our online program at any time.

Our program will include the online classroom, behind the wheel lessons and the Nebraska drivers test for students under 18 years of age.

Online Teen Classroom:

After registering for an online program, students can log into their account from the Road-Ready website 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week. Students will have ninety (90) days to complete the 25 hour program at their convenience.

Each of the lessons take an hour to complete. Students will see a countdown timer on each of these sections for the particular minimum time for that section.

There will be a test at the end of each lesson. Students will be allowed to take a lesson test a maximum of 3 times. If you reach this number, it will result in an automatic lesson failure and you will be forced to take the entire lesson again.

An email is sent at the end of each lesson to inform you of the students’ progress and if they passed each lesson.

 Online Adult Classroom:

After registering for an online program, students can log into their account from the Road-Ready website 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week. Students will have ninety (90) days to complete the 6 hour program at their convenience.

Behind-The-Wheel Training:

Students must complete 100% of the online program and have obtained a valid Nebraska Learners Permit before scheduling driving appointments.

Driving Appointments:  In vehicle driving appointments are scheduled by calling our office after completion of the full online program. We work with students and families’ busy schedules to find driving times that will work for them. We do behind the wheel lessons 7 days a week and it is best to call a week before you would like to start the behind the wheel lessons.

Driving appointments must be rescheduled or canceled one business day before the scheduled appointment date. Appointment failures or late cancellations will be assessed a $30.00 fee.

The number of lessons needed to progress fully through the program can depend on a student's past driving experience, their ability to practice between lessons, and the general comfort level in driving. If a student or parent initially feels the student will need additional lessons our school offers programs that add driving time at a discounted rate if purchased at the time of registration. Students can always purchase additional lessons if needed. "One size does not fit all" when it comes to learning to drive. Our instructors will help students and parents evaluate the needs as we see progress.

In the vehicle lessons:

  • Remember to bring your valid learner’s permit (You can’t drive on streets without it!)

  • No sandals without heel straps. Tennis shoes work best.

  • Be on time. Instructors and student are allowed 10 minute flex of appointment time, no more.

  • Violations of these rules will result in missing appointment times and incurring a $30.00 fee.

Road-Ready has developed the hands-on part of the program to move students progressively from core fundamentals of driving in low risk conditions to feeling comfortable and confident in complex driving situations. We have developed driving routes to accomplish certain goals and to insure the time is used productively to help the student become a knowledgeable, skilled driver. Our approach allows us to evaluate every aspect of the student's driving techniques and improve skills or correct bad habits early. An example of our progression would include but not be limited to the following.

  • Introduction to Driving: Adjusting the fit of the vehicle, explanation of vehicle controls and gauges, steering technique, acceleration and braking control, right and left turns in residential areas, traffic controls, and right-of-way.

  • Moderate City Driving: Review right and left turns, intersections with traffic signals, shared turn lanes, left turns at traffic signals, school zones, crosswalks, multi-lane roads, lane changing, roundabouts, low-traffic expressway, railroad crossings, bike crossings, and low-traffic one-way streets.

  • Downtown City Driving: One-way streets, lane changing, planning ahead, interacting with pedestrians and bicycles, driving around bus and bike lanes, multiple turning lanes, multi-lane roundabouts, and short expressway/freeway introduction.

  • Highway, Expressway, and Freeway Driving: Review turning at traffic lights and lane changing, highways inside the city, expressway driving, emergency roadside stop, off-road recovery, county highways, gravel roads, entering and exiting freeways, merging traffic, and weave lanes.

  • Parking: Review one-way streets, curb parking, perpendicular parking, angled parking, and parallel parking between vehicles.

If you are under eighteen (18) years old the driving portion will consist of a minimum five (5) hours of “behind-the-wheel” instruction. If the student is under eighteen (18) years old, we will offer a driving exam for the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). When successfully completing driver education, we will notify the DMV. Upon reaching at least sixteen years of age, but before turning eighteen, a student may go to DMV and be issued their Provisional Operator’s Permit (POP) or the student may utilize the web site, www.ClickDMV.ne.gov, to have the permit issued and mailed.

If you are over the age of eighteen (18) when completing the course, the driving portion will consist of a minimum six (6) hours of “behind-the-wheel” instruction. If the student is over the age of eighteen (18), you must apply to and be tested by the DMVs’ examiners. Upon successful completion of the tests the student would be issued a Nebraska Operator’s License without the limitations of the POP license.
